Bear's Anecdote - As the story goes, Bob Kelley (Bear's dad) was trying to survive on his own cooking
in that interim time between getting a job in a remote town and selling the home in the old town.
When selling one house and paying for an apartment in another town, the money gets tight. So, when
the granola cereal Bob bought was not up to his taste standards, he sought a way to make it appetizing.
The box listed this recipe, and it has become one of his standards. YUM!!!
Bob's Note: 2/3's recipe fills a medium sized Corning Ware baking dish. Serves 6
1 1/2 lb. ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 1/2 cup granola cereal, lightly crushed (preferably with lots of raisins)
1 1/2 cup water
3/4 cup instant rice
2 tsp instant chicken bouillon
1 tsp curry powder (does anyone know what's really in this stuff?)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup raisins
Brown ground beef with onion.
Drain.
Reserve 1/4 cup granola.
Mix remaining granola and other ingredients together and place in 2 quart casserole.
Sprinkle with reserved granola.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 or 35 minutes until rice is tender. Serves 8.
